Worthwhile afternoon :-)

Dear Matt and Mar,

On that Saturday afternoon Matt and your mother was busy, so Mar and I was left to our own devices, to admit I was quite blank, but the only thing I knew was at the end of the day Mar and I would be sitting down somewhere in BKK eating a piece of chocolate cake... haa haa haa haa haa, and I was not wrong, lol.

Only us two-05763Wanted to make a donation for Matt for his recent BD, but that was out of the question, being a Saturday so the queue was longer than the queue at Starbucks at 50%, haa haa haa. So off we went upstairs to the main temple, then to Mar’s highlight of the visit...

The concept is a simple one, we spend money (the amount is up to us) to buy the veggies to feed the buffalos, the money would then be spent saving the lives of other buffaloes that were going to be slaughtered at the abattoir (the saved animals would be given to farmers). My only gripe was the lack of hay, the thought of them sleeping on cold hard concrete bothered me quite a bit.

Well, once Mar is a little older we can talk more on this, in the meantime she was so happy to be feeding them :-)

Matt is nine :-)

Matt is nine-05743Dear Matt and Mar,

A bit late on this posting, well, Matt turned nine exactly one month ago today (at the time I am at the keyboard hammering out these first few words). A huge change for us this year though, usually Matt’s BD is also a public holiday (coronation day of our beloved Late King Rama 9), but since his passing May 5th is no longer relevant.

A couple of changes this year, for the past 5 years, we would buy a cake take it to school for Matt to share with his classmates during one of the break... with the children being older, sharing a cake wasn’t so ‘wow’ anymore (besides Matt was never into cakes), so this year it was Pizza, haa haa haa haa haa, and it was the perfect choice... :-)

Matt is nine-05747As that day was no longer a public holiday, it was not possible for me to take a day off to join Matt and his friends, all was on your mother to organise everything (a large round of applause).

But I know that Matt was waiting for me to come home, so that he can open his present :-) For the past few weeks he had been asking for the Nintendo Switch... haa haa haa. So your mother and I decided to pull a little prank.

Of course I got him the Switch (of course it would be shared, haa haa haa, just like the PS4, haa haa haa), also got him the case for the Switch... decided to wrap up the ‘case’ and gave it to Matt as the main present, pretending that I’d thought that the Switch was inside, of course your mother’s and my performance was worthy of a thousand Oscar... haa haa haa.

Matt is nine-05756You should have seen Matt’s face... haa haa haa, your mother and I could not kept it up for long, and soon gave in, haa haa haa. Matt and Mar was over the moon (and so was I, lol).

Happy Birthday Matt, you are growing up far too fast... love you baby.

Year 4 Lion King Production :-)

Year 4 Lion King-06098Dear Matt and Mar,

You two are now at home having a great time, enjoying your half-term break. Last Friday your mother and I took time off and after picking you up we drove straight from your school to Pattaya, where the parents from Mar’s class had arranged (several weeks back) to meet up, as it turned out, virtually the whole of Mar’s class were there, so you can imagine the fun... and I think we broke the hotel, haa haa haa.

Prior to the start of half-term, year 4 put on the Lion King performance, and it was fantastic... the production, the costumes, the sets, the songs, the dancing and everything else was fantastic. Many parents, like all of us have seen you all perform from EY1 to now Year 4, and this year for the first time you could feel the emotion behind the performance, you are all growing up so fast, lol.

To make sure that all children had parts, the story broke down into chapters, each class took to the stage for each chapter, so the whole production had 5 children playing the same character but in different chapter. Matt was Mufasa, his scene was when Mufasa was quite cross with Simba, so Matt had to shout and be angry, and he absolutely loved it.

Quite looking forward to next year’s production now... lol.

Becoming somebody :-)

NID-05824Dear Matt and Mar,

Finally 2 years later, haa haa haa. When I was young (and no, that was not 50,000 BC), one had to be 13 before it was time to get the National ID (‘NID’), and in  Thailand one uses NID for absolutely everything, from job applications, opening bank accounts, buying a car, buying a house to voting.

But recently the age was dropped from 13 to 7, but me being me, I didn’t get my act together until Matt was 9, haa haa haa haa, only 2 years late. Not so long ago it was a real hassle to do the NID, you had to go to the district office that was registered on your housing document, so for us that would mean driving across Bangkok.

But now, with everything being online you can go to any district office to do the NID, so on a fine Saturday morning, after your Golf lesson, we literally walked 3 minutes to the district office next door, lol.

Unfortunately the documentation that I had prepared were not the original, and they needed the originals. But we still had plenty of time, all of us bundled into the van, went home, washed and in jiffy we were back at the district office.

Matt had to answer some questions (parents’ name (that alone was a struggle, haa haa haa) and etc.), then it was time to review the documentations, all passed with no hassle. We were stumped a little when the officer asked which religion was Matt... me being a Buddhist and your mother being a Catholic, so when the question came, I looked at your mother and your mother looked and me and both of burst out laughing... lol.

We ended up not putting in the religion, well Matt can decide for himself once he is old enough... after checking the documentation, it was time to submit the biometrics, fingerprints, then a photo shoot, haa haa haa.

Then there was a long wait, which was strange, only to find out later that their equipment broke, lol. Luckily after about 20 minutes the lady managed to fix everything... your NID is now with me permanently... and now and then I would take it out to have a look, it always put a smile my face... haa haa haa.
